Registerfly.com: Get Your Authorization Codes Now! (… before Titanic Sinks)
You may have noticed that this post may differ a little from our usual topics of poker and online gambling. The reason for this is that we were also affected by the soon to be extinct RegisterFly.com.
… However we have found and an emergency solution …
This solution exploits the loophole in their system and gets you your authorization codes quickly. This will work on all domains that have used the ProtectFly feature and the Domain-Lock feature and up until now have not been able to get the codes they need to transfer their domains to another registrar.
We were hesitant to release this information before we transferred all of our domains. And as of 10 minutes ago we have full access to our domain names & they are safe in another registrar.
The following processes, if followed to the letter, will give you the codes and start the domain transfer. If you’re lucky, you may get off this titanic in time.
1. Create A New Register Fly Account.
2. Login into the Old RegisterFly Account.
3. Click on Manage Domains
4. Click A Domain Name
5. Click On Change Ownership
6. Click On “Push your names to another user”
7. Click Continue
8. Enter The User ID of The New RegisterFly Account
9. Verify The User ID of The New RegisterFly Account is Correct
10. Click Continue
11. Select Each Domain Name to Push
12. Check the Check Box Marked “Change the Whois/Contact info on the names being pushed”
*** Check This Box Only if your Domains are Showing ProtectFly Information on a Whois Database, If it’s Showing your Real Information with Working Email Then Continue Without Checking the Check Box ***
13. Login into Your New RegisterFly Account, Your Recently Transferred Domains Should Be All Unlocked.
14. Click Change Whois Information And Get Authorization Code for Each Domain.
15. Begin Transfer to New Registrar.
Our Experience took 5 Days (3 Business Days) and has gone through fine. Good Luck with your efforts, and if you have any questions post a comment.
We will try to answer the comments ASAP.

4 years ago I moved away from 99p.org to registerfly - assuming well established firm is good for my business. What a nightmare, lost everything, over 3000 important business emails kept on their webmail system. My old registrar still responds to support ticket within 30 mins even at 3am in the morning. Good example of overestimation and underestimation based on web contents.
Thanks for the info, I’m flying out. Not sure how .cn domain transfer will perform.

How can I release the IPS tag for .co.uk domain names held with registerfly? For .com names we can initiate the transfer at new registrar but for .co.uk current registrar must release the TAG to new agent

I’ve asked them to release tag but no response
Looks like we’ll have to contact nominet.org.uk to release tag. It will cost 10 pounds/domain though according to their website

No answers to my mail request…

The problem is that you need to follow the full process. Step by step. It worked flawlessly for me and I have full control of my domains. I suggest to print out the above post and do it step by step. Once you have tried that im sure you will see results. ;)

I had no success. Authorization Code is blank before the push and after the push. But the good news is…this morning authorization codes appeared which weren’t there lastnight for two of my domain names
Anyone have any ideas on how to handle an expired domain. The domain had ProtectFly on. I was able to turn it off, but a ProtectFly.com address still appears in a whois lookup. When I go to the whois contact informatin from the control panel, all the fields are blank. It won’t let me update the whois info. I get “Error: This domain name is expired and cannot be updated.” Any suggestions?

I think they may have blocked this now because I cannot push any domains from my account. I get a INVALID_PUSH error in the url string with no transfer.
Most option are now cut off and I have INVALID_PRIVELEGES errors on almost every thing I try to do including name change and lock/unlock.
I requested transfer of 114 domains and 38 have gone through thus far. In the past 3 months they have stolen over 20 premium domains from me totalling many 1000’s of dollars
Valentino Viccetzar said,

I may have a solution guys! It seems alot fo you are trying to transfer a bulk amount of domains at one time. And if my memory serves me correctly I ‘unlocked’ them and got the codes one-by-one. Try to move them via the process above but do one domain at a time, then come back and post your findings. We will all try to help you get your domains. And any successess please come back and share it so others can learn from you.
Thanks!

I’ve done the same as miamilife and my domain expires today (although I paid for renewal one month ago) I’m starting to panic because the domain expires today and I think they will hijack my domain like they have with so many others of mine.
James said,
March 16, 2007 at 8:54 pm
@miamilife:
You need to accept the transfer at your new registrar. They will then tell RegisterFly to go ahead with the transfer.
This may be done by responding to the email that is sent to the listed email address.
Rocky Balboa said,
March 17, 2007 at 5:10 am
this method still works, was able to pull 2 of my domains out of RF, miamilife: if you have gotten the authorization codes and started the transfer than you are good to go, you need to wait a few days for the registerfly email to come in which you need approve and the domain will transfer within 6 hours after that.
miamilife said,
March 17, 2007 at 9:55 am
thanks for the responses. my domain expires today, which is why i’m concerned about having to wait until i get the approval email from registerfly. i obviously would have acted on this sooner, but i didn’t know about the situation with registerfly until yesterday. ugh!

I had the first three names (of 30) go through and work as described. I went on to the next name and the auth code field is blank. I do not know if it was a good idea, but I even tried pushing it back and forth between the two RegisterFly accounts, but no luck. Maybe someone caught on, maybe it is a fluke for this account? I don’t know.
Bruce said,
March 17, 2007 at 11:47 am
I’m scared. Not the remaining accounts seem to be (partially) locked up. I’m getting the response “domain not found”. The system now is populating the whois fields with RegisterFly’s Florida (which I understand is no longer real) addresses and contact info.
I’m afraid with the ICANN accreditation pulled, they do not have anything else to loose.
Michael said,
March 17, 2007 at 4:26 pm
Of my 9 domains with RF, 5 would not transfer. I tried the new account trick above. It only worked on 2 of my domains — those 2 from which I could not remove ProtectFly.
My remaining 3 domains are still trapped. I tried all at once. I tried one at a time. I tried checking “Change the Whois/Contact info;” I tried leaving it unchecked. Back and forth. Back and forth. The Authorization Code is still blank (the bold words “Auth Code” still appear, indented 139 pixels, under “Authorization Code”).
Rocky Balboa said,
March 17, 2007 at 4:49 pm
Michael, the authorization code may take a bit of time to show up in the new account whois, let it sit for a day or so and see how it goes.
Make sure your domains are allowing the push transfers and everything is setup correctly, so you don’t get the wrong errors.
I just tried throwing the domains back and forth from my accounts and everything still seems to be working, it knocks off protectfly and disables the domain-lock.
Jack said,

In my experience, it seems to be random. I have codes now for about 1/3 of my domains, but there are a few I am really nervous about because I’m getting a message that the domain cannot be found.
I would like to know what is going on on the “other side”, are the RegisterFly people even around. Is the whole thing on auto-pilot or is the randomness maybe not so random. Perhaps someone behind a console decides what codes appear and what codes to hold back?
It feels like a very frightening game and I don’t feel like I’m winning many rounds.

My domain was set to expire 3/10/2007. Not knowing about all of this buisness, I paid the renewal on 3/07/2007. The paypal transaction says payment went through, yet my domain still expired. My real website is http://home.mchsi.com/~bickal/ and thats what bickal.com pointed to. Now its taken over by something else.
I did the push to separate account as stated above, and it worked, but I still don’t get any authorization numbers. I tried e-mailing transfer-question@icann.org but that came back undeliverable.

Yes it also took us some time to get the domains. I think it was anywhere from 5 to 6 days. But if you got the auth codes already and started the transfer your domains should be fine. None the less keep at it and you will succeed with your transfers.

Success here too. For the transfer to be successful, you will need to click on the locked status to do an unlock. I had my status in a locked state when i push to my new account. After i click on the locked status to unlock, godaddy accepted my transfer request. Good luck to all.

Transfer your .co.uk domains to a tucows reseller for FREE and WITHOUT the need for tag change!
Request a transfer to the new registrar (tucows reseller in this case) and it won’t require the tag change as registerfly is also reselling tucows for .co.uk domains - simple logic.
The best part is, most of the UK based tucows resellers will accept this transfer without charging you any money. Your expiration date will remain same (no extension) and you will only have to pay when you will need to renew your domains for another 2 years.
I would not like to point out a particular reseller here, but if somebody is unable to find a Tucows reseller who offers free transfers, I will suggest a couple of options.

Didn’t work for me. In the old account (before trying 15 steps) there’s no auth code, but also my whois is wrong. Trying to change whois info shows “Error: Domain name not found” error message. Even though they send an email saying that it is changed.
I don’t care about the auth code. Godaddy can transfer without that, but they need authorization from the Admin contact email on the whois. Mine shows Registerfly email. I just need to change the damn whois, I hate registerfly. And why can’t Godaddy just verify with the web site’s email address (webmaster@mysitedomain.com) for transfer authorization?
I did 15 steps including #12. Whois info still shows nothing in new account. Changing it in the new account shows same error message also. I have to face it, I’ve lost my domain name, expires in a month.

I was trying to go through Godaddy and they still need the auth code - because I have .com address… Butsome addresses seem don’t need auth code.
Need auth code: com, .net, .org, .biz, .us, .info, or .name
What they will do is: send Transaction ID and Security code to your Admin contact email address. Then you log in to your Goddady account, begin transfer process with entering auth code.
They take money before this whole process so, you’d better check if they can transfer your address without the code or not from the list above.

[…] To me, this sounds like incompetence, not malice — but domain names are the lifesblood of the web, and a website author who has to move everything to a new domain (and who can’t even update his old website’s homepage to tell everybody where he’s moved) is right and royally screwed, no matter what the reason. Dan also says that he has joined a class action lawsuit against the company, and that ICANN has terminated RegisterFly’s accreditation. I’m a blogger, not a journalist, so I have not investigated this issue. I believe what my friend Dan says, and am simply passing this information along. Here are some links, though, that Dan has provided to document his claims: Here’s a Wikipedia page with more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RegisterFly Here’s the Class Action: http://www.registerfly-lawsuit.com/ And a blog devoted to this mess: http://www.registerflies.com/ and the transferring workaround: http://pokerrouge.com/blog/other/registerflycom-get-your-authorization-codes-now-before-titanic-sin… […]

This like many other fixes may or may not work for each indivual accont or domain. I tried this multiple times a couple weeks ago and although the push worked the changes to whois would not work and after push the security code went blank or RRP. I also tried to transfer to GoDaddy and explained to Customer Service at GD that I had the Security Code but whois was locked, I was told NO Problem. I then started the process but GD just kept waiting for the email from Registerfly and no other options were offered.
I must add that this didnt give me a warm feeling about my new choice of registrars. I WAS VERY LUCKY, after all the worry and waisted time searching for answers, posting blogs, emailing authorities and trying every conceivable fix, I found the answer for anyone who still has enom as listed registrar and was able to push to enom at NO Charge.
GO to enom and check with their whois, if you domain shows up it may still be under their control , if it says enom at the very top as registrar you can move without a big hassle. Open a Free account at enom then Email customer support at enom with a brief explanation, your request to push and your Domain Name. They will help you in a very timely manner, mine only took a few hours, but be patient they are handling the requests ASAP. Once it’s moved just change your whois and you can then transfer to the registrar of your choice. And just to relieve you of more stress during this push I did not loose my site or email (NO DOWN TIME). ONCE again as I have asked in all my Blogs “WHY is REGISTERFLY still in Business?”
